Why The Holy Spirit Matters Today is a journey, chapter by chapter, into a deeper life with the Spirit; a life marked, not by striving, but by surrender; not by confusion, but by clarity; not by fear, but by fullness. Each chapter is designed to be built upon the last, and the book begins with the Holy Spirit's presence, and continues on through His power, character, gifts, guidance, and mission.

If you've longed to hear God's voice, experience His power, or find purpose in your faith, this book is for you.

I don't know what my expectations were, but this exceeded them! The text, personal anecdotes, application, invitation, and challenge: these were put together in a readable, digestible, meaningful, and useful manner. It is very solid, edifying, and, I really believe, helpful to anyone who will read it. If someone has questions about the Holy Spirit they have never asked, this book nailed it! It is written from a pastoral heart. I am impressed and pleased!

This is one of those rare teaching books that I read through in one sitting. I'm generally likely to bog down in an author's efforts to come across as deep and profound, and don't usually make it all the way through the book, although my intentions are good. Ken Cummings writes with genuine simplicity and does so in a way that invites the reader to come along on his journey with the Holy Spirit. Ken's insight into the third Person of the Trinity is keen, and it becomes apparent that he has embraced Him as fully God. As Ken writes in his book, "He's not a secondary member of the Trinity, or the lesser-known cousin of Jesus."

This book needs to be added to any church's teaching curriculum. It is laid out in an easy-to-follow outline, and I wonder if Ken didn't use every verse in the Bible, at some point. It's very rich with the Word.

Very highly recommended!

About the Author

Ken Cummings

Ken Cummings has walked with Christ for more than 35 years, faithfully serving the Lord in a wide range of ministry roles. From his early days as a youth pastor to later seasons as an executive pastor, senior pastor, and member of various ministry boards, Ken has carried a deep desire to see the church alive in the power and presence of the Holy Spirit. Saved at the age of 16, his personal testimony is one of God’s grace, transformation, and lifelong calling to serve His people. His experience in shepherding, mentoring, and leading has given him a heart for both the local church and the global mission of Christ.

Before stepping fully into ministry, Ken also served his country with honor as a combat medical specialist in the United States Army. Stationed in Germany, he learned the discipline of service and the urgency of caring for others under pressure; lessons that would later shape his pastoral ministry and compassionate leadership.

Ken has been married to his wife, Sharlon, for 34 years. Together, they have built a strong family rooted in faith and love, raising two daughters and two sons, who are now joined by two wonderful sons-in-law. Their joy continues through the next generation with four beloved grandchildren, who remind Ken daily of God’s goodness and the importance of passing on a Spirit-filled legacy.

Ken writes out of a pastor’s heart, a veteran’s resilience, and a believer’s hunger for more of God. His desire is simple yet profound: that every reader would encounter the Holy Spirit in a personal, life-changing way, and that the church would be strengthened to walk in the fullness of God’s power in these days. Ken’s passion is to see believers live Spirit-filled lives; walking in the power, guidance, and presence of the Holy Spirit every day. His teaching blends biblical truth with personal testimony, inviting readers and listeners alike to experience the transforming work of God in their own lives.
